A four night Study tour of Kent and Sussex, from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd May 2026.
Half board at the 4-star Hydro Hotel, Eastbourne, located in an elevated setting within private grounds on its cliff top position.
Itinerary :-
MONDAY: On the way to Eastbourne, a stop at Nymans near Hayward's Heath, which is a garden with rare and unusual plants, set around romantic ruins. There is an elegant house with rose gardens.
TUESDAY: A trip on the Bluebell Steam Train from East Grinstead to Sheffield Park (approx. 11 miles). Followed by a visit to Sheffield Park Gardens where lunch can be taken and the 18th Century Grade 1-Listed landscapes gardens can be viewed, which include lakes, cascades and bridges.
WEDNESDAY: A visit to Bodiam Castle, a 14th Century moated castle. We could follow that with a visit to Alfriston, often voted the prettiest village in England and where you can visit the shops. We may have time to visit Seaford, once a thriving port, to see the sea.
THURSDAY: A visit to Sissinghurst Castle and gardens with a fairytale tower. The formal gardens were designed by Harold Nicholson and Rita Sackville West provided lavish plantings. We will probably visit Rye, with its cobbled streets, and where you will have the opportunity to visit Lamb House , built in 1722, and lived in by both Henry James and E F Benson.
FRIDAY: Knole on the way home. This is a 15th Century Jacobean house , the birthplace of Rita Sackville West. There is an extensive deer park in the grounds.

All costs are included except the National Trust properties — so non NT members will have to pay (NT members are free).
Travel insurance is available £36 pp (going up in 2026 via Motts tel: 01296 336666). This cannot be booked until they receive the deposits.
