Five days/Four nights study tour to Harrogate Monday 3rd to Friday 7th May 2027.

Half board at The Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate, a Victorian retreat, where grand period features meet modern comforts in the heart of a historic spa town. Famous for its glass-ceilinged Wedgwood Restaurant and the cosy Swan Lounge with views of the lawn.

Visits tentatively planned (subject to availability)

Monday 3rd May (on the way to Harrogate):- Burghley Estate. Visit the House, the William Cecil and 'Capability' Brown Exhibition, the Historical Garden of Surprises, and the Contemporary Sculpture Park. Knowledgeable guides in the 18 state rooms are available to share the fascinating history of the family, the house, and Burghley's remarkable collection.

Tuesday 4th May:- Aysgarth Falls then Fountains Abbey (lunch here).

Wednesday 5th May:- Whitby, stopping briefly at the pretty village of Goathland where the TV series Heartbeat was filmed. Spend some time in Whitby and have lunch. Catch the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Pickering. The coach will meet us in Pickering and take us back to Harrogate. (note: we may vary the order of this day as we do not yet have finalised train times for 2027).

Thursday 6th. May:- The walled city of York founded by the Romans; York Minster, the Medieval Shambles, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum. Harrogate in the afternoon - time to visit Betty’s for afternoon tea. The coach will take us to and from York but the cost of any site visits are at your own expense.

Friday 7th. May (on the way home):- Hardwick Hall, house, garden and parkland, one of the finest Elizabethan buildings in the country, built by Elizabeth Hardwick, Countess of Shrewsbury.

All costs are included except the National Trust properties (Fountains Abbey and Hardwick Hall).

Travel insurance is available £38 pp (likely to go up in 2027 via Motts tel: 01296 336666). This cannot be booked until they receive the deposits.

Cost of the tour is £697 pp. We have 20 single rooms (true singles) available to us with no supplement. Additional singles will have a double room with a supplement of £128.

A deposit of £75 will be collected, probably in October. The balance will be collected in February 2027.
